(ReliableNews.org) – Last week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) blamed New York City’s spike in crime on parents trying to shoplift bread. The city is definitely seeing an increase in acts of gun violence; however, the idea was pretty outrageous because people don’t usually shoot others while they are trying to commit petty theft. Instead of admitting she was wrong, the far-Left lawmaker doubled down.
When Republicans pushed back on her claims, the Democrat brushed it off by claiming most members of the GOP haven’t experienced poverty.
Republicans are all upset that I’m connecting the dots between poverty and crime.
I know most of them haven’t experienced or seen these issues first hand, but I have.
This may be hard for them to admit, but poverty and crime are highly linked, both violent & nonviolent alike. https://t.co/4t34dCLZlw

Of course, she has no idea what “most” Republicans have gone through. The Democratic lawmaker is making assumptions about millions of people, many of them who absolutely do live in poverty, in an attempt to defend criminals. The GOP just doesn’t commit acts of gun violence because they’re going through a rough spot.
