Are Churches Truly Preparing the Next Generation?

Speaking at the 2019 Southern Baptist Convention, Pastor Andrew Brunson raised an issue that should be close to every Christian’s heart. For those who aren’t aware, Pastor Brunson was imprisoned in Turkey for two years for his faithfulness to Jesus Christ. The heavily Islamic nation put him in solitary confinement with no access to an attorney nor any way to make outside contact for the first two months of his ordeal. In his address, he raised a valid point about the state of the Church in America. Pastor Brunson made this admonishment during his speech:

I don’t think that we’re prepared for what is coming, especially the next generation…You are the ones as pastors and leaders of churches who have the task of preparing the next generation. – Pastor Andrew Brunson

He was taking these ministers to task for failing to train-up the Christian youth. There are two truths presented in the Bible, the Good News of Jesus and the Dire Consequences of Hell. If a minister fails to teach his flock about both he endangers all their souls.

One reason for this can be found in the uprise of prosperity preachers who a willing to corrupt the Gospel to inflate their bottom line. Private jets and 8-figure mansions supplement teaching the Word. Another is the way church councils and boards kowtow to the belligerent Progressive Liberal crowds. These churches cave on homosexuality, abortion, and other biblical tenets because they are afraid of being “shamed” by the mainstream media propaganda machine.

The upshot? While Jesus told us that the number of faithful will shrink as the date of His return draws near, these churches and pastors are seriously hindering the next generation and all that follow from having the opportunity to have the tools to even make the choice.
