(ReliableNews.org) – Convinced of an election victory by Democratic hopeful Joe Biden, progressive firebrands are wrestling for control of the party. Part of that effort includes a push for college debt-forgiveness and free college tuition on Biden’s first day in office.
“Things were bad for me, so they should stay bad for everyone else” is not a good argument against debt cancellation – student, medical, or otherwise. #CancelStudentDebt

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos pushed back against those demands during a December 2 interview with Fox and Friends. As if it needed to be said, DeVos began by explaining there’s no such thing as “free” anything. Somewhere down the line, someone has to pay tuition costs — past and present.
We know what “free college” means: a government takeover. Nothing is truly free & the 2/3 of Americans who don’t pursue a 4-year degree will end up footing the bill for the 1/3 who do. Those who paid back their student loans shouldn’t have to subsidize those who didn’t plan/pay. pic.twitter.com/OzAqFlKzg5

Continuing, DeVos explained that America’s colleges and universities are the envy of the world. However, its success depends on the place in the free market. America’s higher learning institutions could not continue growing, and flourishing were the government to step in and take control.
It looks like Biden is willing to meet progressive at least part way with their demands. His current education plan includes loan forgiveness of up to $50,000 for individuals performing community or national service and tuition-free education at public schools for families with incomes up to $125,000.
