(ReliableNews.org) – In May of last year, then-President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 13920 “Securing the United States Bulk-Power System,” which protected the US power grid from foreign adversaries. The EO prohibited companies from sourcing material for certain projects from China, Russia and other countries. President Joe Biden recently decided to take his own action and it’s very concerning.
When Biden revoked the Keystone XL pipeline in January, his executive order also suspended the enforcement of EO 13920. The order said that the Director of OMB and Secretary of Energy would review the order and decide whether it should remain in place.

With the recent storms across the US and the damaged electrical grid in Texas, the issue is now in the spotlight again. There is a concern that if China and other hostile nations are able to provide equipment that’s used in critical infrastructure, it could leave the US open to cyberattacks, perhaps even causing a large scale blackout covering multiple states.
It’s more important now than ever that the government secure America’s electrical infrastructure. Reinstating Trump’s policy could go a long way in making that happen.
