Biden Vows To Strengthen Security for Trump After Assassination Attempt

(ReliableNews.org) – Former President Donald Trump is lucky to be alive. He suffered a bullet wound to his right ear after a gunman tried to shoot him in the head at a rally. One attendee died and others were critically injured. President Joe Biden pledged more protection for the former POTUS after the attack.

On July 13, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks climbed onto a building across from Trump’s rally at the Butler Farm Show Grounds in Pennsylvania. The former president turned his head while looking and that move possibly saved his life. Instead of hitting him in the head, the bullet grazed the former president’s ear.

Pennsylvania firefighter Corey Comperatore died at the rally. He was reportedly trying to shield his family from the gunfire when he was shot. Two others were seriously injured. The Secret Service killed the suspected shooter but an investigation into the assassination attempt is ongoing.

President Joe Biden held three press briefings after the attack. He said the FBI is leading the investigation but stressed it was in the early stages. He explained that there was no information about a possible motive for the shooting.

Biden said he told the Secret Service to “provide [Trump] with every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to ensure his continued safety.” The president also told the American people that the Secret Service was doing everything it could to make sure the Republican National Convention was safe.

In addition to the extra security for Trump, Biden ordered the Secret Service to begin protecting Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The independent candidate is the son of the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, both men were the victims of political assassinations.

The House of Representatives is investigating the attempted assassination of Trump. House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has asked the head of the Secret Service to testify.
