Body Found in an Arby's Freezer

(ReliableNews.org) – An Arby’s freezer usually contains a lot of meat. After all, it is the restaurant with the slogan, “We have the meats!” What one doesn’t expect to find in the freezer is a body, but that’s what happened in Louisiana.

On Friday, May 12, the New Iberia Police Department received a call just before 6:30 p.m. about a dead woman at a local Arby’s. Sgt. Daesha Hughes, a spokesperson for the police, told KATC that a manager found the unresponsive female in the restaurant’s freezer. The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene at some point and pronounced the woman dead.

Police have not released the woman’s name but have confirmed she was an employee — a manager — of the restaurant. For now, they don’t believe foul play was to blame for her death.

Laurel Sprague, a brand reputation manager for Arby’s Restaurant, released a statement on behalf of the corporation. It stated that the company knew of the incident at the New Iberia location and was “cooperating fully with local authorities as they conduct their investigation.”

New Iberia Police Captain Leland Laseter told reporters that a preliminary investigation has revealed the deceased woman’s death seems to be an accident. However, he said, “Nothing is set in stone yet.” An autopsy will help reveal more information.

The incident in Louisiana isn’t the first time a worker has been found dead in a freezer. Last year, a 33-year-old man died after being accidentally locked in the freezer at Beigel’s Bakery in Brooklyn, New York. The accident happened at about 3 a.m., and his colleagues didn’t find him until just before 9 a.m. later that morning. Sadly, it was too late to save him.

Reports later identified the victim as Mahamadou Dansogo.

News reports revealed the man had five children when he passed away.
