Brian Laundrie's Parents Harassed, Clean Property at Night Hoping Not to Be Seen

( – The nationwide manhunt continues for Brian Laundrie in the wake of the disappearance and murder of his former fiance, Gabby Petito. He quickly lawyered up after returning from a cross-country trip without Petito on September 1. He remains the lone person of interest in Petito’s disappearance, and his parents continue sparking public attention and protests.

On Monday, October 11, reports emerged Laundrie’s parents, Christopher and Roberta, have resorted to unusual efforts to avoid public harassment. For example, Tampa Bay Fox affiliate WTVT aired video footage of the Laundrie’s removing laundry baskets from their front lawn under cover of darkness. According to WTVT, protesters left the baskets along with a poster memorializing Petito.

The baskets appeared to be a symbolic call for Laundrie’s parents to air their dirty laundry regarding what they know about their son’s possible role in Petito’s disappearance.

Little is known about Christopher and Roberta’s possible role in their son’s abrupt disappearance weeks ago or their level of cooperation with law enforcement officials. A local police official did concede a certain level of “oddness” surrounds the Laundrie parent’s story, adding portions of it “just didn’t make sense.”

It is understandable for the public to express outrage at the death of a young person like Petito and Brian Laundrie’s effort to evade law enforcement officials. However, in America, suspects are presumed innocent until found guilty by a jury of their peers. Perhaps, it’s time for the public to extend that same courtesy to Laundrie’s parents.
