On Sunday Fareed Zakaria host of CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” opened his show by saying there are flaws in this country’s current asylum system. Although Zakaria is not a Trump fan, he agrees with Trump about the crisis we have with our asylum system here in the US and that the rules surrounding asylum are very vague.
There has been a 240% increase in asylum seekers since 2014 and over 300,000 asylum cases currently pending.
Originally asylum was meant to be granted to a very small number of people in critical circumstances. Instead it has now become a substitute for the process of immigration itself.
The Democrats have spent a lot of time on the immigration topic as they condemn the Trump administration for it heartlessness. If the US southern border continues to spiral downward, Trump’s tough love on the border might start to look more attractive to the public.
