(ReliableNews.org) – In an ideal world, law enforcement agencies serve the needs of the people, and help to maintain peace and order. While the majority of those who serve do so with honor and dedication, there are always a rare few who abuse their powers. Often, they fly under the radar until finally caught. That’s exactly what happened to the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent in this eye-opening story.
Former DEA agent Chad A. Scott’s troubles started — maybe “were discovered” is a more accurate term, here — less than a decade after he joined the DEA in the late 1990s. His team accidentally attracted the attention of a federal anti-corruption task force in early 2016.
At the time, investigators believed Scott and his colleagues were actively taking cash from criminals, lying on the stand, and in some cases, falsifying witness testimonies to pad convictions. The DEA responded by taking his badge and suspending him from duty.
But that wasn’t the end of Scott’s story. The feds continued to look into his decade-long stint with the DEA long after his departure, convicting him of Perjury, Obstruction of Justice and Falsification of Government Records in 2019.
Court documents show the disgraced agent faced a judge more recently on two additional charges: Conspiracy and Conversion of Property. He was convicted on both counts and sentenced to a total of 13 years in jail.

While Scott’s actions may seem incredulous, the larger-than-life ex-agent isn’t alone in playing fast and loose with the law for his own gain. In fact, the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations released a damning report highlighting the severity of corruption in law enforcement agencies back in 2015. Officials have charged at least 12 agents with similar transgressions since that time.
