Democrats Request Mayor to Receive Presidential Style Authority

(ReliableNews.org) – More than seven weeks after rioters stormed the US Capitol Building, Democrats continue to do their best to keep the incident fresh in Americans’ minds. They tried, unsuccessfully, to impeach Donald Trump, claiming his tweets and speeches sparked the incident.

On January 28, Sen. Chris Van Hollin (D-MD) introduced legislation granting DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser full authority over the district’s National Guard. The President of the United States currently exercises that power.

The bill proposes striking any reference to the president and replacing it with “Mayor of the District of Columbia.” Any reference to the “commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard” would also be replaced. If passed, the bill would give Bowser the power to relocate National Guard units, issue supplies, and other executive functions.

Ironically, then-President Donald Trump offered to deploy 10,000 National Guard troops to Washington DC prior to January 6. However, as former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told Fox News, the offer was declined numerous times. One has to wonder if anything has changed and Mayor Bowser now has any interest in controlling the National Guard.
