(ReliableNews.org) – Americans are doing everything they can to protect the elderly in this country during the COVID-19 outbreak. According to the CDC, people age 65 and over are the most at risk. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Spain.
NPR is reporting Spain’s Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, said Spanish military forces found elderly residents of retirement homes abandoned. Some of them were even “dead in their beds.” The soldiers found the people while they were providing aid and disinfecting the centers.
Health Minister Salvador Illa called nursing homes a top priority for the Spanish government. It certainly doesn’t seem like it, though. Usually, people who are important aren’t left to die in their beds or abandoned.
As of March 25, Spain is reporting over 47,600 cases of the virus, including more than 3,400 deaths. Prosecutors in the country are now investigating incidents in the care centers.
