(ReliableNews.org) – Actor Sam Neill starred in the iconic “Jurassic Park” movie franchise. He’s also racked up credits in many other critically acclaimed roles throughout his 50+ years in the entertainment business. Privately, he’s been fighting a terrible disease, but he recently talked about what really frightens him.
In March, Neill revealed he was fighting stage three non-Hodgkin blood cancer, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. The type of cancer he suffers from usually only impacts about 1% or 2% of all non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients, making it relatively rare. He discovered lumps in his neck after promoting the sixth “Jurassic” movie in 2022 and decided to have a blood test. Doctors diagnosed him a few days later. In a recent interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the actor said he’s “not really interested” in his cancer.
The 76-year-old explained that he knows the disease is out of his control. “If you can’t control it, don’t get into it,” he said.
Instead of stressing over his cancer diagnosis, he leaves it to his doctors. He said that he received chemotherapy for about three months but it stopped working. His doctors switched him to a rare anti-cancer drug. The medication worked and now he’s been in remission for about 12 months. However, he has to receive infusions every two weeks indefinitely.
The actor opened up about what really scares him and it isn’t death. He said that he knows that the medication will eventually stop working. He has prepared himself for when that time comes, but he has not prepared himself for retirement. He said the thought of not working anymore fill him with “horror.”
Neill told the network that he enjoys being around other actors. In addition to his career, he also owns a vineyard and makes wine. He said that he’s looked at his life and feels “immensely grateful” for it.
