Famous Celeb Actor in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Passes Away at 61

(ReliableNews.org) – Born in 1962 in Chicago, Andre Braugher graduated from Juilliard with a Master of Fine Arts degree and a love for the stage. According to IMDB, the accomplished actor started his entertainment career as a Shakespearean thespian portraying Henry V in the Big Apple. However, Braugher got his big break in 1989 when he played a corporal for the Union Army’s African-American regiment in “Glory.” Still, many people recognize the actor for his incredible work portraying memorable characters on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Homicide: Life on The Street.”

On December 13, Braugher’s representative, Jennifer Allen, confirmed the 61-year-old Emmy winner had died. She said his death followed a “brief illness,” but didn’t provide any further details about what happened to the acclaimed actor. Braugher was married for 30 years to his “Homicide” co-star Ami Brabson and has three sons — Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley. Other family members include his mother, Sally Braugher, and his brother, Charles Jennings.

Over his 35-year career, Braugher was nominated for 11 Emmys total, winning two. His work included “The Andromeda Strain,” “Salt,” “City of Angels,” “Gideon’s Crossing,” “Men of a Certain Age,” and “The Good Place.” He won his Emmys portraying a master criminal in “Thief” and Detective Frank Pembleton on the primetime “Homicide” series. Time reported that Braugher told the Associated Press in 2019 that he had a hard time finding work in Hollywood before landing the role of Pembleton. He said roles for African Americans were “few and far between, Period.”

Terry Crews, who co-starred Braugher on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” posted a tribute to the actor on Instagram, calling him an “irreplaceable talent.” Crews said it was an honor to “have known [him], laughed with [him], and worked with [him].” He praised Braugher for showing him “what a life well-lived looked like.” Comedian Joe Lo Truglio also posted a tribute. He said in addition to his amazing acting talent, the actor could also belt out a tune. His sense of humor and presence on screen will be missed.
