FBI Informant Accused of Providing Incorrect Information

(ReliableNews.org) – Over the past few years, there’s been a lot of speculation that Hunter Biden engaged in less than scrupulous business practices and involved his father, now-President Joe Biden. Last year, US Attorney David Weiss was appointed special counsel to investigate Hunter’s activities. That investigation has resulted in an indictment against an FBI informant.

On Thursday, February 15, Weiss announced that a federal court had unsealed a two-count indictment against 43-year-old Alexander Smirnov. Smirnov, who provided information to the FBI on Hunter Biden’s alleged activities, was charged with creating a false and fictitious record during FBI interviews and making a false statement. The press release doesn’t identify Hunter and Joe Biden by name, referring to them only as Businessperson 1 and Public Official 1.

The indictment alleges that Smirnov spoke with the owner of Burisma Holdings about the company potentially “acquiring a US company and making an initial public offering (“IPO”)” in March 2017. He then relayed to the FBI that Hunter was on the board, which was already public knowledge. Fast forward three years, in June 2020, Smirnov allegedly spoke with the FBI and reported that Burisma executives admitted to him that they hired the younger Biden to “protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems,” and paid $10 million, $5 million each to Hunter and Joe Biden. The indictment claims these are fabrications and that the phone call with Burisma had taken place after Joe Biden had already left office and “had no ability to influence [US] policy.”

The indictment also alleges that Smirnov lied again to FBI agents last September when he not only reiterated some of the previous false claims but “changed his story” and then “promoted a new false narrative after he said he met with Russian officials.”

Smirnov is facing a maximum of 25 years in prison if he’s convicted. Authorities arrested him on Wednesday, February 14, after he landed in Las Vegas, returning from overseas travel.
