(ReliableNews.org) – In early February, President Joe Biden ordered a review of Guantanamo Bay prison. The facility, located on an American base in Cuba, houses suspected terrorists. One Republican is now working to prevent those detainees from ever entering the US mainland.
On February 23, Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) introduced a bill that would prohibit GITMO detainees from being transferred to the US. The congressman released a statement explaining the detention center holds the “most dangerous enemy combatants.” He said it’s common sense to keep those prisoners away from America and our judicial system.

Some Democrats and criminal justice advocates have been trying to have the GITMO prisoners tried in the US courts. That would require bringing dangerous criminals into America. Republicans, like Duncan, are rightfully concerned that would put lives in danger.
