On August 18, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a call reporting a “family disturbance” at 31600 Broad Beach Road in Malibu. DeAnna Madsen, the actor’s wife, alleged that Madsen had pushed her and locked her out of their residence. Deputies responded to the scene and determined that Michael Madsen was involved in a domestic incident with his wife.

Madsen, 66, was subsequently arrested and booked into the Malibu/Lost Hills Station at 1:40 a.m. on charges of domestic battery, a misdemeanor under Penal Code 243(e)(1). The actor posted a $20,000 bond and was released from custody.

Madsen’s Career and Background

Michael Madsen is a veteran actor known for his tough-guy roles, particularly in Quentin Tarantino films. He has appeared in over 200 films, including “Reservoir Dogs,” “The Hateful Eight,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and “Kill Bill.” Madsen has also starred in the “Free Willy” film franchise and appeared in other notable movies such as “Thelma & Louise,” “Sin City,” “Donnie Brasco,” and the James Bond film “Die Another Day.”

“It was a disagreement between Michael and his wife, which we hope resolves positively for them both,” a representative for Madsen told Variety.

Recently, Madsen has been active in numerous direct-to-video productions and is set to star in the upcoming dramatic thriller “Blood Behind Us” alongside Jaime King and Michael Milligan.

Legal Implications and Previous Incidents

The investigation into the domestic violence incident is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Van Nuys Superior Court House for filing. A domestic battery misdemeanor charge can result in a sentence ranging from jail time to a protective stay-away order.

This is not Madsen’s first brush with the law. He has had previous legal issues, including arrests for driving under the influence in 2012 and 2019. In the 2019 incident, he crashed his Land Rover into a pole and had a blood alcohol content of .10. Additionally, he was arrested in 2022 for allegedly trespassing on an unnamed property.

Madsen’s recent legal troubles come two years after the tragic loss of his son Hudson, who died by suicide at the age of 26. The actor expressed shock and confusion over his son’s death, noting that Hudson had seemed happy days before the incident.

“I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy — my last text from him was ‘I love you, dad,'” the “Hell Ride” actor said in a statement shared with The Los Angeles Times at the time.

As the case progresses, more details are expected to emerge. The incident has once again brought attention to the issue of domestic violence and its impact on families, even those in the public eye.
