(ReliableNews.org) – The 2022 midterms are just months away and Republicans are hoping Democrats will be booted out of the majority. Currently, the GOP only needs to net five seats in the House and one in the Senate to take the power away from the floundering party. One Republican leader is making a bigger prediction.
On March 24, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-CA) told Punchbowl News he thinks the GOP will win the House back and it won’t “be a five-seat majority.” Thirty-two Democrats have announced they’re not running for reelection. The minority leader said the election won’t be like 2010, when the Republican Party won more than 60 seats. He doesn’t know how many seats he will win, but said the party will need to win in Democrat areas which is why the retirements matter.
In the Senate, 34 lawmakers are up for reelection this year. As of March 2, the Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan pollster, predicted five of those are competitive. Among those seats are three Democratic seats, including Arizona, Georgia and Nevada. Remember, the GOP only needs one of those to win; but if they were to win all three, it would give the party a comfortable majority.
Considering all of the failures of President Joe Biden’s administration – inflation, immigration and foreign policy, etc – it very well could be a blow-out year for the GOP in the House and Senate.
What are your predictions for the 2022 midterms?
