Max Payne’ and ‘Rescue Me’ Actor James McCaffrey Passes Away at 65

(ReliableNews.org) – Born in 1958 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, James McCaffrey grew up in Albany, New York, and moved to Boston, where he pursued a career as an artist, graphic designer, and art director. The general public likely knew McCaffrey from his work as an actor and producer. Some of his works include “The Truth About Cats & Dogs,” the video game franchise “Max Payne,” and the FX comedy-drama “Rescue Me.” Recently, his wife made a tragic announcement.

On December 18, McCaffrey’s wife, Rochelle Boström, confirmed to Fox News Digital that her husband passed away on December 17 from cancer. She told the outlet that she was “lying next to him and holding his hand when he took his last breath.” Boström said his death was “devastating to so many” people. McCaffrey had been battling multiple myeloma, a bone cancer, and died from complications related to that disease.

According to Fox News, the actor got his start in the acting world, appearing in “New York Undercover” and “Sweet Justice.” Fans might also remember seeing McCaffrey in “Beautiful People,” “As the World Turns,” or “Revenge.” From 2004 to 2011, he played firefighter Jimmy Keefe in “Rescue Me” on FX, where he further grew his fanbase. The talent’s other credits include “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and “Blue Bloods.”

Although McCaffrey had many credits to his name over the years, he revealed during a 2020 interview with Saratoga Living that his favorite role was playing Jimmy Keefe’s ghost in “Rescue Me.” The actor said he had a personal connection to 9/11 that he drew from for the role. A neighbor of his growing up died in the towers. The actor also said he knew one of the firefighters who died that day. He visited the site each year on the tragedy’s anniversary.

In addition to his wife, McCaffrey leaves behind his daughter, Tiernan McCaffrey.
