(ReliableNews.org) – On Sunday, April 11, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota officer Kim Potter made a fatal mistake. Body cam footage shows her trying to subdue 20-year-old Daunte Wright with what she thinks is her Taser but it’s actually her firearm. She fired a single shot, killing him. Riots broke out after the shooting and instead of trying to keep the peace, former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, added fuel to the fire.
On April 13, the Obamas released a joint statement condemning the police. The former first couple claimed the recent shooting is proof that policing needs to be “reimagined” and they said they are sympathetic to black families in its wake.

We empathize with the pain that Black mothers, fathers, and children are feeling after yet another senseless tragedy." https://t.co/peZvNUVKik pic.twitter.com/uqt8nya9PM

Racial tensions throughout the country are at an all-time high. The last thing the country needs is for a former president and first lady to add more fuel to the fire. Rather than dividing the country, pointing fingers, and blaming the entirety of our country’s dedicated police force, we need to allow for proper due process – something obviously happening with the investigation and charges already filed in this case.
