(ReliableNews.org) – The Democrats’ response to so-called “detention camps” has been confusing at best. When Barack Obama established them, they seemed content to sit quietly on the sidelines. When Donald Trump continued those policies, people like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (R-NY) cried foul, calling him every name in the book.
Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) posted a short Twitter thread on February 23 in response to a Washington Post article about Biden reopening a migrant facility for children.
It’s only 2 mos into this admin & our fraught, unjust immigration system will not transform in that time.
That’s why bold reimagination is so impt.
DHS shouldn’t exist, agencies should be reorganized, ICE gotta go, ban for-profit detention, create climate refugee status & more.

She started innocently enough, writing that locking down children is never okay. However, she appeared to excuse the practice stating that the Biden administration is only in its second month, that it will take time to fix immigration.

Predictably, conservatives were quick to respond to her hypocrisy. Fox News contributor Stephen L. Miller and Washington Examiner contributor John Gage reminded everyone of the time AOC flew to a migrant camp for a photo op to make Trump look bad. Steve Guest, a special advisor to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), called her tweet a “slap on the wrist” aimed at Biden.
Is it too much to ask for a little consistency? If AOC truly cares about immigrants’ plight, perhaps it’s time for her to reach across the aisle and work with Republicans to enact meaningful immigration reform.
