(ReliableNews.org) – It’s no secret that prominent New York Democrats have been targeting former President Donald Trump for years. The state’s Attorney General Letitia James campaigned on a promise to aggressively investigate his business interests, family and finances.
Likewise, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. fought since late 2019 to get access to Trump’s financial records before finally receiving them in late February 2021.
Vance initiated an investigation into allegations that Trump or his business provided false documentation regarding his assets’ value to obtain tax benefits and loans. The investigation is also looking into so-called hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels and other women on Trump’s behalf.
The Wall Street Journal reported on March 9 that Vance’s office was “intensifying” its investigation, adding a probe into a Westchester County, NY, estate called Seven Springs that Trump acquired in 1995 for $7.5 million. Trump allegedly valued the property at more than $290 million to help him secure loans and other financial benefits. AG James is reportedly investigating Seven Springs as well.
Alleged financial crimes are difficult to investigate and prosecute successfully. There is no indication of how long Vance or James’ investigations might last. We will keep you updated as events unfold.
