(ReliableNews.org) – The Grammy Awards are the biggest night in music. Artists from around the world receive accolades for the hard work they put in the previous year. Rapper Michael Render, known as Killer Mike, won three awards … and a set of handcuffs.
On February 6, music stars attended the awards ceremony in Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. The rapper won three Grammys at the ceremony. After winning his first award in more than 20 years, Los Angeles police approached the rapper and placed him in handcuffs.
Authorities later announced that police arrested Render after an alleged altercation with a security guard. According to TMZ, the confrontation happened at the ceremony. The rapper is accused of knocking the security guard down when he didn’t move out of his way fast enough outside of the arena where it was raining.
Render, 48, was booked into jail on a charge of battery. He spoke to TMZ after he was released and said the incident was the result of a security guard pretending to be a cop. He explained there was confusion about which door he was supposed to enter. That’s when he and his team encountered the “over-zealous security guard.”
Render told the celebrity gossip website that he thinks he “will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing,” but until that happens, he told everyone that they would keep “going after [their] dreams.”
On February 7, Render was able to make it to his son’s kidney transplant surgery despite the incident at the awards show. Michael Render, 21, had been waiting for a match for three years. He said his son’s new organ was “already working” and told the celebrity site that he “did really well.”
Render won the awards for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance. The rapper is due back in court on February 29.
