(ReliableNews.org) – Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell was one of the stars of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” which aired on TLC from 2012 to 2014. Doctors diagnosed the 29-year-old with adrenal cancer earlier this year. Sadly, she has now passed away.
In May, June “Mama June” Shannon informed her followers that her daughter had stage 4 cancer. She told Entertainment Tonight that the family had accepted Cardwell wasn’t going to beat the disease. She said they’d all accepted it, but were taking it one day at a time. Later, her physicians said the aggressive disease spread to her kidney, lung, and liver. A few days before her death, Shannon gave an update on Cardwell’s condition, saying things had changed and she would not be online again until her daughter passed away.
Shannon announced her daughter’s death on December 10 in an Instagram post. She said Cardwell died at 11:12 p.m. the prior evening, surrounded by her loved ones. Shannon told her supporters she loved them and asked them for their “continued prayers and thoughts” during this time.
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson posted a tribute to her big sister on Instagram. She said Anna was in a lot of pain the night she passed away, but, “she is at peace now.” Still, she told her fans that her “heart is completely broken.” The child star asked the Lord to wrap his arms around her sister’s two children and the rest of the family in the days ahead.
Adrenal cancer, which begins in the adrenal glands above the kidneys, is very rare. It only impacts between 300 to 500 people every year. Typically, when caught early, the patient can go into remission. Unfortunately, when it’s caught after it spreads, it is much harder to fight and the patient has a lower chance of survival.
Cardwell is survived by her two daughters, 11-year-old Kaitlyn and 8-year-old Kylee.
