90 Retired Generals and Admirals Call on Gens. Mark Milley, Lloyd Austin to Resign

(ReliableNews.org) – Republicans and Democrats alike are criticizing President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. Now, even former Pentagon and Department of Defense officials are calling for resignations among the military’s top senior leadership. Nearly 90 retired generals and admirals demanded the Pentagon’s top brass step down.

The retired flag officers signed an open letter calling for the resignations of Joint Chiefs Chairman General Mark Milley and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. The former military members called the actions by the leadership “negligent”.

The letter went on to say that they should have advised the President the withdrawal was a bad idea and done everything within their power to cause him to change his mind. If they failed to do so, the generals stated, then Milley and Austin should resign. They also believe they should have left their posts in protest when the commander-in-chief didn’t ensure the “safety of our citizens and Afghans loyal to America.”

They are particularly worried about the many Americans and Afghan allies who were not evacuated out of Afghanistan and who are now “de facto hostages of the Taliban.” They believe the only path toward accountability for the “tragic and avoidable debacle” is if Austin and Milley leave office. The generals stated the consequences of the withdrawal are going to impact people for decades.
