(ReliableNews.org) – The Hill published excerpts from a recent interview with former Texas governor Rick Perry (R) on October 29. Confident in an election victory for President Donald Trump, Perry did express concern regarding Democratic inroads in the state by Democrats in recent years.
Democrats have successfully picked off long-held Republican seats the last couple of election cycles, creating widespread concern among Texas Republicans.

Perry told The Hill he thought Texas Republicans “got complacent” the last decade, falsely assuming the party could maintain control. Perry also said the Republican Party failed to “build” the necessary structure to continue winning elections, adding they didn’t build a “strong team” of candidates and political operatives.
Texas does appear to be in play these days with Republican Sen. Ted Cruz narrowly defeating Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke by a margin of only 2.5 percentage points in 2018 to retain his seat. Hopefully, the Texas Republican Party heeds Perry’s warning and staves off future election losses in the state.
