(ReliableNews.org) – Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis took a proactive approach to the COVID-19 pandemic, choosing to act instead of reacting to its accompanying economic fallout. DeSantis discussed his strategy on handling the pandemic during a wide-ranging interview with Fox News host Mark Levin on Friday, June 25.
Levin began the interview by asking DeSantis about his decisive leadership during the pandemic and the message he sent to other governors. DeSantis responded that he focused on protecting Floridians against the “many threats to freedom” that could change their way of life and future opportunities.
Continuing, DeSantis noted that Florida led the nation in the fight against COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions. As he explained, had Florida not set that example, the rest of the country would have ended up as economically depressed as Canada, which is still under a national lockdown.
Many of the states believed they had to comply with mandates handed down by federal health authorities like the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, but they didn’t. Florida showed you could fight back against federal control, like the state’s recent court victory against the CDC over its cruise industry regulations.
DeSantis has spent the bulk of his first term as Florida’s governor battling the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be interesting to see what’s next for Florida and the nation when he can spend more time on other issues.
