(ReliableNews.org) – Tensions between Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, and the British royal family are nothing new. The couple caused a fracture in the relationship when they decided to step back as working members of the family in 2020. Recently, issues between the two sides flared up again.
The British newspaper, The Sunday Times, recently reported Harry and Meghan were invited to go home to celebrate King Charles III’s 75th birthday. The paper claimed they decided they would not be traveling overseas to attend the November 14 celebration.
On November 6, the couple’s spokesperson responded to the report that they’d turned down the invite. The spokesperson claimed Buckingham Palace had not reached out to them, saying there “has been no contact regarding an invitation to His Majesty’s upcoming birthday.” They went on to say that it was “disappointing” that the newspaper ran the story.
The feud between Harry and his family doesn’t appear to be getting any better. When the couple stepped down as working royals, they moved to the United States. The prince has traveled back to the UK only a handful of times since then, including for the funerals of both his grandparents and his father’s coronation.
In Harry’s book “Spare,” he discusses his fractured relationship with his father and brother, Prince William. He detailed a physical fight with his brother, saying William pushed him down in 2019 during a confrontation. During the argument, he claimed his older brother called his wife, Meghan, “difficult,” “abrasive,” and “rude.”
The brothers, who were once incredibly close, have not mended their relationship. When Queen Elizabeth died, Harry and Meghan attended her funeral but left right after it was over. Harry returned for his father’s coronation but did not stay to celebrate with his family when it was over. Now, there’s the drama over the birthday. It doesn’t appear as though the family is going to fix the problems between them any time soon.
