(ReliableNews.org) – Former President Donald Trump mopped the floor with President Joe Biden at the first presidential debate. The 81-year-old commander-in-chief spent 90 minutes looking dazed and confused. His performance sent Democrats into a panic and Republicans searching for a way to protect the country. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) has suggested an extreme solution.
Tillis wrote a letter to the Senate GOP conference saying that Biden’s debate performance made a “discussion” about Biden’s ability to serve “a necessity.” He wrote that if the president didn’t step aside on his own then the Cabinet should do something about it.
The North Carolina senator said that if the president couldn’t perform well after weeks of debate prep then how could he lead the country through a crisis? Tillis went on to say that he thinks “Biden is a decent man who cares” about America but that time has caught up with him and the “decline is more dire than people realized.” The Republican lawmaker accused the White House of being dishonest.
Tillis declared Biden isn’t fit to serve “as leader of the free world.” He said that he’s likely going to lose in November but that things could happen between now and Inauguration Day in 2025. To prevent disaster, the senator thinks the Cabinet should use the 25th Amendment to transfer Biden’s power to Vice President Kamala Harris.
The senator isn’t the only Republican to raise the issue. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) spoke to reporters the day after the debate and said there are “a lot of people asking about invoking the 25th Amendment” and called it “an alarming situation.” He asked the Cabinet to think about what they should do.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced a non-binding resolution calling on Harris to convene the Cabinet and declare that the president was unable to carry out his duties and announce that she would be assuming his powers.
