Six Found Dead in Bangkok Hotel After Alleged Cyanide Poisoning

(ReliableNews.org) – Millions of people visit Thailand each year from all over the world. Six people recently visited the country and stayed at a local luxury hotel. Sadly, they will never go home.

On July 17, Thai police reported four Vietnamese citizens and two Americans died at the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok. Law enforcement discovered the deceased guests after entering a fifth-floor suite. The guests reportedly missed check out by over 24 hours, which prompted authorities to investigate.

When police arrived they found the bodies of three women and three men. Two of the people were in a bedroom, one was at the table, and at least one person tried to make it to the door. There was a table full of food that hadn’t been touched. The cups on the table had traces of white powder in them. Police found the front door of the suite locked but the back door was left open.

Law enforcement reported that they think one of the dead people poisoned everyone else and themself. However, they weren’t completely sure. There’s a possibility that the victims tried to take their own lives.

Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Noppasin Poonsawat said it didn’t appear as though the deaths were connected to organized crime. He said that a family member of one of the deceased individuals said they were an investment agent and all of the other dead guests had invested with them. Business wasn’t going well and the investors scheduled a meeting to discuss what was going on.

The guests were between the ages of 37 and 56. A married couple was among the group of people who died. Trairong Phiewphan, the chief of the Police Forensic Office, held a press conference and said the white residue in the coffee mugs was cyanide. It was also in the liquid inside of the teapot. At least one of the people who died had the deadly toxin in their bloodstream.

The investigation is ongoing.
