Are There Other Notable Leaders Within the GOP? Sen. Tom Cotton Thinks So
(ReliableNews.org) – Now that the midterm election results are mostly accounted for, many are turning their attention to the next cycle in 2024. While former President Donald Trump formally announced his presidential campaign on November 15, some within the party blame him for the lackluster performance of the GOP on November 8. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) shared some opinions on the matter.
On November 13, the Arkansas lawmaker appeared on CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” where he was asked point blank if he thought Trump should stay as the figurehead of the GOP. Cotton seemed to skirt the issue a bit by saying there are many leaders in the Republican party since Democrats are the ones currently in power.
The senator admitted Trump is certainly popular with voters, but Republican Governors Ron DeSantis (FL), Brian Kemp (GA), and Glenn Youngkin (VA) are also strong contenders. Cotton also mentioned he considers himself a leader while mentioning a laundry list of other heavy hitters for the GOP.
When asked by host Margaret Brennan if he was endorsing any of the leaders he mentioned for president in 2024, Cotton shifted the conversation back to the current midterms and the upcoming December run-off for a senate seat in Georgia. He said everyone in the GOP should stay focused on getting former NFL player Herschel Walker (R) elected to the Senate.
Who do you think the party will back for the GOP in 2024? Do you feel it’s time to move on from Trump, or are you hoping he will return to the Oval Office?
