Trump Calls for McConnell's Removal after Debt Ceiling Deal

(ReliableNews.org) – In the first week of December, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) worked with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling. That is the limit on how much money the Treasury Department can borrow to pay for past debt. The Kentucky senator is now facing the wrath of former President Donald Trump for his actions.

After McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reached an agreement on a debt ceiling measure allowing Democrats to raise it with a simple majority, the Left did exactly that. On Sunday, December 12, Trump released a statement through his Save America PAC calling on the GOP to oust McConnell as minority leader. The former president accused the senator of giving Dems everything they wanted instead of using the debt ceiling to get concessions from them.

Prior to the deal with Schumer, McConnell had insisted the GOP would not vote to raise the borrowing limit. He said that since the Left had the majority in the Senate, they were responsible for increasing it and making sure the debts were paid. Although the scheme with the Democrats allowed Republicans to say they didn’t vote on the increase, that’s only true because the minority leader moved out of the way and caved to their demands.

Trump finished his statement by telling conservatives to “GET RID OF MITCH!”
