(ReliableNews.org) – Republican primary voters in Alabama this week couldn’t come to a consensus as to who they want to run for the Senate. The vote ended in a nearly virtual dead heat, forcing a run-off election on March 31.
However, not everyone had trouble choosing sides.
President Donald Trump announced his choice for the position. In doing so, he also dealt a calculated blow to former Attorney General of the United States, Jeff Sessions. Once upon a time, Sessions was one of Trump’s staunch supporters. Those days are long gone.
Trump took to Twitter with his endorsement of Tommy Tuberville, Sessions’ opponent in the GOP primary.
Tommy Tuberville (@TTuberville) is running for the U.S. Senate from the Great State of Alabama. Tommy was a terrific head football coach at Auburn University. He is a REAL LEADER who will never let MAGA/KAG, or our Country, down! Tommy will protect your Second Amendment….

The friction between Trump and Sessions is well known, with Sessions having excused himself from the Russia investigation in 2018. This led to Trump firing him.
It really comes as no surprise that the POTUS backed Sessions’ opponent, given their history. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if Trump’s endorsement will be enough for Tuberville to take the spot from Sessions.
