(ReliableNews.org) – For at least four years, an Antwerp, Belgium woman has been visiting the zoo once a week to see a chimp. She is no longer allowed to visit her primate friend after officials banned her from stopping by that exhibit.
Adie Timmermans told Belgian news channel, ATV, that zoo officials banned her from visiting a male chimp named Chita. The woman said, “I love that animal and he loves me.” She explained that they would blow kisses and wave to each other when she would visit the exhibit.

Zoo officials told Timmermans she was no longer allowed to visit the chimp because it was unhealthy for him. Zoo curator Sarah Lafaut told reporters that Chita was being ignored by the other animals in his enclosure because he was constantly surrounded by humans. They don’t consider him a part of the group and they don’t think that’s likely to change.
Chita, 38, has spent 30 years in captivity. The chimp was originally a pet but was donated to the zoo when he was 8-years-old. Timmermans is upset about the facility’s decision, saying he was all she had and now the zoo is taking that away.
