Young Boy Escapes Crocodile Attack by Kicking Free

(ReliableNews.org) – Crocodiles are notoriously aggressive. A young boy in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, recently discovered just how violent the reptiles can be when they spot prey.

On December 5, just before 6 p.m., a 7-year-old boy was looking for his pet chicken in the area surrounding his house. His cousin noticed there was a crocodile in the water close to where the boy was searching and tried to get his attention. The young child heeded the warning and tried to run away. However, the reptile came out of the water quickly and was able to catch him and grab his leg, fracturing a bone and leaving a large laceration.

The little boy was able to kick free from the croc and escape its angry grip. The child was taken to a hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.

In another incident this year, a child wasn’t quite so lucky. On October 30, 8-year-old Julio Otero Fernández was playing near the Matina River in Costa Rica. Suddenly, a crocodile lept from the water and decapitated the child. The reptile then dragged his lifeless body into the river as his horrified family watched it all unfold.

The stories are examples of why it’s so important to always be aware of your surroundings.
