Christina Applegate Reports Multiple Sclerosis Relapse

(ReliableNews.org) – Christina Applegate was one of the most popular actresses of her generation. She’s most well-known for her role as Kelly Bundy on “Married … with Children.” Sadly, she recently announced she was dealing with serious medical problems.

In the most recent episode of her MeSsy podcast, Applegate revealed she’s dealing with a severe multiple sclerosis (MS) relapse. The chronic illness affects the central nervous system, leading to decreased nerve function. Sometimes it causes problems with communication from the brain to other parts of the body. People with the disease often experience severe pain, problems walking, issues with vision, and other debilitating problems.

The 52-year-old actress said, “I’m in relapse right now, pretty bad.”

Applegate told co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS, that she’s experiencing intense leg pain making it hard for her to do simple things like go to the bathroom. She said she’s feeling sensations like a tingling sensation from her butt down and issues with her eyes. Applegate said she hadn’t slept for 24 hours because her eyes were “doing something weird.”

According to the former television star, she’s been dealing with severe depression as well. She explained that she hadn’t showered for three weeks because of the severity of the relapse. She said it felt like she wasn’t getting any circulation in her legs and that they would not stop hurting.

Applegate revealed her MS diagnosis in 2021. Last year, she said “Dead to Me” was probably going to be her last acting role because of the toll the disease had taken on her body. In March, Applegate said she had 30 lesions on her brain because of MS. The biggest one is behind her right eye and she told Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, the hosts of Armchair Expert, that her eye often hurts.

“I’m not happy about the ones in my brain,” Applegate said last month.
