(ReliableNews.org) – The 2020 election was one of the most controversial in American history. Some political activists went after then-candidate Joe Biden’s two living children in an attempt to damage him. One woman will now spend time in jail for her actions during the campaign.
In August 2022, Aimee Harris pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property of a family member of a candidate for national political office. According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Harris conspired with Robert Kurlander, who has also pleaded guilty, to steal Ashley Biden’s diary.
The theft took place in September 2020, just two months before the presidential election. Ashley Biden was storing the diary, along with other personal property at a private residence in Delray Beach, Florida. Harris was temporarily living at the home and stole the property from Biden.
After Harris stole the journal, she asked Kurlander to help her sell it. Project Veritas, a far-right organization that often targets liberals and mainstream media with allegedly deceptive tactics, purchased it. Harris and Kurlander allegedly received $40,000 and split it.
On April 9, Judge Laura Taylor Swain called Harris’ behavior “despicable,” according to The Associated Press. She said that it wasn’t just greed that motivated the defendant, it was also a desire to impact the presidential election. Swain sentenced her to a month in jail and three months of house arrest. Harris gave a tearful apology to the court after Assistant US Attorney Robert Sobelman asked for a prison sentence because the defendant failed to attend multiple sentencing dates.
Sobelman stated Harris was not the victim, “Ms. Biden is the victim in this case.” He accused the defendant of stealing everything she could in the hope of making “as much money as she could” and damaging now-President Biden.
Harris claimed she was caring for her kids, ages 6 and 8. She said she was the survivor “of long-term domestic abuse and sexual trauma.” Harris also apologized to President Biden’s daughter. An attorney for Ashley Biden attended the hearing.
