(ReliableNews.org) – Shootings are not unheard of in the United States. Still, these acts of violence have devastating effects on communities. A congressman was recently touched by the violence when someone murdered his brother — and the suspect is his nephew.
On early Tuesday, March 19, Timothy E. Kildee suffered a fatal gunshot wound in Vienna Township, Michigan. The victim was the brother of US Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI). Chris Swanson, the Genesee County sheriff, told reporters the 59-year-old was shot after getting into a “yelling match” with his 27-year-old son, Timothy J. Kildee.
The suspect was reportedly involved in three separate incidents on the morning of the shooting. First, police say he was in an altercation with a family member in Burton. That family member called the police, and the suspect left on foot. His mom picked him up and started driving him to his dad’s house. On the way there, he jumped out of the moving vehicle, his mother told police.
Kildee’s mother and father went out looking for him but couldn’t find him, the sheriff said. Later, he entered his dad’s home, got into an argument, and allegedly shot his father. After the shooting, he reportedly stole his dad’s truck and got into a car accident. Kildee sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to the Hurley Medical Center.
Authorities said Kildee was arraigned from his hospital bed. He’s charged with one count of felony murder, carjacking, two counts of armed robbery, home invasion, six counts of felony firearm, interfering with electronic communications, assault and battery, two concealed carry crimes, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, which led to serious injuries.
Rep. Kildee issued a statement saying he had “no words to describe the loss of a beloved brother and family member, especially in such a terrible tragedy.” He asked for privacy at this time. The congressman’s brother is survived by the suspect and his two other children, Jacob and Candace, as well as many other grieving family members.
